Fiesta

"Fiesta" in San Antonio is a BIG deal! Scott and I had no idea what it was but after hearing so much about it and seeing all the "wreaths" on the door and then discovering even the schools close for it and Mal's preschool even had a school wide "Fiesta" celebration we thought we would find out what it is all about :-) One thing we knew for sure is that everyone parties for two weeks :-) Here are the 2 main things I found:

Fiesta really is one of America's truly great festivals. It began as a way to honor the memory of the heroes of the Alamo and the Battle of San Jacinto. That commemoration still takes place. But over the past century and more, Fiesta has grown into a celebration of San Antonio's rich and diverse cultures. 2009 marks Fiesta's 118th anniversary.

  • 11 days
  • 107 events
  • 100 local nonprofit member organizations
  • Up to 3.5 million attending
  • $284 million economic impact
  • A real Texas-sized festival!
Fiesta never ends because its 100 local nonprofit groups work in their communities year round, helping their neighbors. And the military organizations that take part in Fiesta are, of course, defending our country 365 days a year.

Pretty cool....huh?

I had a great time with Mallory today at the Coker Day School Fiesta :) We are going to go see what else we can find this weekend :) When we are finally back home in KC you will drive by my house in April and see a HUGE brightly colored wreath on my door and know we are celebrating Fiesta :) Maybe I will start throwing a "Fiesta" every April so y'all can get into the spirit with us :)
LOVE YOU GUYS!!!!
